G'day,

My name is Josh, and I'm currently a 27-year-old Sports Media and Communications student at the University of Canberra. Originally from Albury, my full-time working life started straight out of High School when I took a job as an Electrical Apprentice at the age of 17. After I completed my apprenticeship, I managed to score a job working in the media and entertainment industry in my home town undertaking a range of roles in radio and within the music and event space.

My Story

Growing up, I had always been fascinated with media, sports broadcasting and anything behind a camera or a microphone. My interest in the media and entertainment industry led me to quit my stable full-time job as an electrician in 2018 to chase a career in media with my latest career step along the journey landing me at the University of Canberra completing my degree in Sports Media and Communication.

My first career pivot towards media occurred after successfully being accepted into Southern Cross Austero's "Tallent Boot Camp" in Albury which subsequently led me to a Promotions role in the Albury office. During this time, I was also a presenter and producer at community radio station 107.3 2REM where I managed to land two national community radio awards for my contribution to the shows The Mixed Lolly Bag and the Atomic Countdown. It was also during this time that I was Communications and Branding Director at the emerging music media company "Atomic Music Australia" where I oversaw the creation of a digital radio station, physical monthly music magazine and networked radio show broadcast in every state in the country.

In my first two years studying full-time I was also the first Community Engagement Officer of the National Farmers Federation's Regional Tech Hub Program focusing on assisting Rural, Regional and Remote communities to make empowered and informed decisions about their internet and technology choices.

At the start of 2023, I decided to undertake a semester of my studies abroad in the United Kingdom where I mainly focused on the Sports Broadcasting aspect of my degree. During this time, I was involved in live sports broadcasting for multiple sports including, Football (soccer), Pool, Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The highlight of this journey was being Director and head vision mixer for a "Wicked n Bad 4" boxing event at the O2 in London.

After returning from the UK and beginning my final year of university, I have been involved in the production of pieces to camera for Supercars Media, commentary for ACT Basketball, begun a motorsport podcast in partnership with the Owl and UCFM and become a valued member of the Canberra Rally media team.
